The 7^th International Machinery Exhibition of Garment and Textile Technology (MEGATECH) was held at Expo Centre, Karachi from Tuesday, March 3, to Friday March 6, 2009. The Exhibition, held annually, is credited to be one of the most prestigious textile events in Pakistan.

Posters displaying the research work of final year students from Textile Institute of Pakistan and other universities including NED, KU, SFDAC and others were put up at the “Knowledge Village Pavilion” Session of MEGATECH. This occasion provided an opportunity for the students to interact directly with textile dignitaries from industrial and governmental sectors. Quite a few students received encouraging responses from the visitors who offered advice on taking research projects forward.

           

Alongside MEGATECH, the “2^nd International Technical Textile Conference” was held on 4^th and 5^th March 2009 at Level 2, Expo Centre. The Conference theme was “Application of Nonwoven as Technical Textiles”, and following in the tradition of last year, this year’s conference too was quite a success.

One of the key point of the conference were the presentations given from the platform of ‘Textile Research and Innovation Centre’ (TRIC). As many as four presentations were from TRIC, elaborating on the research activities in the technical textile areas of Medtech, Agrotech and Geotech. The Conference provided a valuable opportunity for TRIC to develop its ties with other academic institutes and textile industries of Pakistan.

 

The two sessions of the Conference were chaired by Mr. Mohammad Farooq Sumar ,Chairman National Textile Foundation and Eng. Abul Kalam ,Vice-Chancellor NED University of Engineering & Technology respectively. Several other textile notables also graced the occasion.
